What the hell are we doing?
We are taking part in the Mongol Rally 2007; we will be driving from London to the Mongolian Capital, Ulaan Bataar. For added intrepidness (be prepared for overuse of the word intrepid here), we will be driving a clapped out 15 year old 1 litre Nissan Micra.
We will be departing Cork, on July 20th 2007. We will be the only Cork team to ever take part in the rally. We will be joining the other 5 Irish teams, before leaving for the start line in London.
On Saturday 21st July 2007, 200 1 litre crapmobiles will leave Hyde Park in London, heading for Dover and the great unknown.
Why are we doing this?
Not just because we’re mad (although we are a bit), we are raising money for two very worthy charities: Mercy Corps Mongolia and Send a Cow.
Mercy Corps Mongolia supports rural communities in Mongolia to meet their economic and social needs, helping individuals, families and communities to become more self-sufficient, diversified in their production, and better linked to local, regional and national markets.
Send a Cow provides families with a cross-bred cow whose milk yield is very high – up to 14 litres a day. Livestock provided by Send a Cow provide a lasting solution for desperately poor farmers in Africa, enabling them to combat malnutrition with protein-rich milk and earn an income from the sale of the surplus milk.

Our trusty steed will also be donated to the Charities when (if) we arrive. They will either use the car or sell it to raise money for their work.
The Mongolian Government have kindly waived their substantial import tax as the rally is for the benefit of these charities.
